Photographers are constantly looking for ways to speed up their editing workflow, and in recent years consoles and controllers have been released to help to achieve this. Amateur Photographer magazine cover 27 June 2020

I was delighted to discover that one of my images of sunrise at Cobbolds Point in Felixstowe was going to be used on the cover of the 27 June 2020 issue of Amateur Photographer magazine. The image was supplied as an option to illustrate the practical article I wrote for the issue covering the importance of lens calibration for obtaining perfect focus and maximum sharpness. Take a look below for examples of the cover and article.
The exploitation of photographers on Instagram

When a company contacts you and offers to ‘gift’ you something in return for producing an advertising post and stories on Instagram, they’re not gifting anything, they’re trying to exploit you. By taking part, YOU are helping to devalue the photography industry – the industry you’re either working in already or wish to break into.
Leica M10 Monochrom example images

The Leica M10 Monochrom is the latest camera from Leica that shoots black & white images exclusively. And while this may seem an extravagance when you consider the cost of the camera, it makes a huge amount of sense based on the incredible image quality achievable with the sensor at all ISO levels. Not to mention the camera is an absolute delight to shoot with.

For the week preceding the announcement of the Sony FE 20mm f/1.8 I was out shooting with the lens in Suffolk and Northumberland to capture images to accompany my review of the lens on Tech Radar. Scroll down to check out some of the images I took and to read about some of the features of the lens.
DJI Mavic Air 2 240fps Slow Motion Video

Slow motion video of running water shot at 240fps on the DJI Mavic Air 2. DJI’s latest drone is packed full of new and exciting features, not least slow notion video at 120fps and 240fps at 1080p. The effect is impressive and adds a new dimension to aerial videography.
Photography Week cover February 2020

One of my drone landscape images was used on the cover of the 13 February issue of Photography Week magazine. The cover illustrates an article inside I created covering essential information and techniques for photographers considering adding drones to their photography. The image was taken in the Lake District in early autumn as the foliage on trees began to turn which created an interesting patchwork of colour when shot from above. See below for the original image and a larger version of the cover.
DJI Mavic 2 Zoom example images

The Mavic 2 Zoom is a consumer-level drone featuring an optical zoom lens with a full-frame/35mm equivalent focal range of 24-48mm. The sensor itself is smaller sensor than that of the Mavic 2 Pro, but this means that aerial photographers can get closer to their subjects safety and legally while maintaining the minimum required separation from people and buildings. See below for example images shot on the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom.
Enhance detail and atmosphere with the Orton effect

Discover an advanced method of applying the Orton effect that keeps file sizes small and image quality at its best. I developed this refined technique myself in response to upgrading to a higher resolution camera, which meant the original technique created huge file sizes when saving layered images as TIFFs. And also, to deal with the problem of crushed shadows. This version solves both of these issues for the best results possible, and the tutorial works for Both Photoshop and Affinity Photo.
